NUS – Ceiling Mount 3D Front-Lit LED Signage

Project Overview

Apex Signages was commissioned by Acacia College @ NUS to fabricate and install a series of ceiling-mounted 3D LED signs across their learning facility in Singapore. The objective was to create highly visible, modern front-lit signage that enhances wayfinding, adds visual identity and complements the refreshed interior aesthetics. The scope included four prominent suspended word signs — PLAY, RELAX, CHILL, ESC — along with durable acrylic safety and floor loading signage.

Design & Fabrication Highlights

The PLAY, RELAX and CHILL signage sets were engineered using 50mm aluminium box-up construction with 3mm opal white acrylic faces for consistent front illumination. Each piece was fitted with high-efficiency 6500K LEDs, offering excellent brightness and long-term performance for indoor Singapore environments.

The ESC sign was fabricated from a 100mm opal white acrylic box-up, featuring direct UV-printed text and suspended from powder-coated aluminium hollow beams.

Safety signage, including floor loading and escape plan plates, were created with 3mm acrylic panels using reversed UV printing for durability and colour stability.

Installation Process & Safety Compliance

Apex Signages installed all ceiling-mounted signage using a reinforced aluminium hollow framework, secured with Hilti HST4-R M10 stainless steel anchor bolts. All work followed BizSafe, BCA and WAH safety compliance, ensuring safe execution within the operational NUS environment in Singapore.

During installation, our team encountered air-conditioning ducts obstructing the standard mounting path. We performed on-site welding and bracket reconfiguration, enabling accurate alignment without compromising structural integrity or ceiling services.

Lighting & Visual Impact

The use of 6500K LEDs, paired with opal acrylic, delivers a premium front-lit effect that is bright, evenly diffused and visually striking. The 3D LED signage enhances wayfinding and contributes to a contemporary interior atmosphere — a common requirement for educational institutions in Singapore seeking modern branding.

Challenges & Solutions

Challenge: Existing aircon ducts interfered with standard bracket positioning.

Solution: Our team executed on-site welding to customise bracket lengths and offsets, allowing seamless integration with existing services while maintaining clean alignment.

Results & Client Feedback

The completed installation provides Acacia College @ NUS with bold, illuminated features that elevate the spatial identity of their Singapore campus. The signage offers strong visual presence, reliable LED performance and architectural consistency throughout the space.

FAQ

1. What makes 3D LED signage effective in Singapore interiors?
3D LED signage provides high brightness, long lifespan and clean visibility, making it ideal for schools, offices and retail environments across Singapore.

2. Is aluminium box-up signage suitable for Singapore’s indoor climate?
Yes. Aluminium is lightweight, corrosion-resistant and durable, making it ideal for long-term indoor or sheltered applications in Singapore.

3. Why use reversed UV print for safety signage?
Reversed UV printing protects the ink behind the acrylic, giving strong durability and colour retention for safety and wayfinding signage.

4. Can ceiling-mounted signage be installed safely in operational buildings?
Yes. With proper anchoring, structural checks and WAH compliance, ceiling-mounted signage can be installed safely in operational schools, campuses and commercial spaces in Singapore.

5. Are front-lit LEDs recommended for wayfinding signage in Singapore?
Front-lit LEDs provide clear visibility and efficient energy usage, making them a popular choice for educational and commercial wayfinding signage in Singapore.
